HISTORY

1940

Haruo Namura opens his business with the object of producing and selling brushes for calligraphy, Japanese painting, watercolor and oil painting, and other uses, as well as items used in calligraphy.

1948

Incorporated as Namura Taiseido LLC. At the same time, the Japan Brush Research Institute LLC is formed as a way to research brush technology and enhance production techniques.

1949

Namura Taiseido watercolor brushes and other products are certified as meeting Ministry of Education standards.

1950

To expand production, the head office and production plant are relocated to their current locations in Zoshigaya, Tokyo.

1955

Name changed to Namura Taiseido Co., Ltd. in line with change in corporate organization.
Launched the new “Izumifude Lovely Fountain Pen,” a product that modernized the old yatate, or personal smoking-pipe-shaped writing sets from medieval Japan.

1956

Established a new Trade Department to deal with increasing exports of Namura brushes to the West and other overseas countries. Strengthened and expanded the export business.

1959

Established Namura Products Co., Ltd. to deal with the further increase in exports and target countries.
Export markets included the United States, Canada, Britain, West Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, India, Southeast Asia, and more.

1963

Started wholesale of paint materials.
Developed a system for general wholesale of calligraphy items.

The SV No. 1, is launched, becoming a hit product.
1976

President Haruo Namura is appointed to the key position of Chairman of the National Calligraphy Product Manufacturers’ Association.

1988

Founder Haruo Namura passes away at age 71.
He is succeeded by Yukio Namura as President and Representative Director.

1989

The current head office is built in Zoshigaya, Toshima Ward.

1990

SK.Line launched.

1992

A proper general catalogue that covered all the company’s diversifying products is created. Printed in full color, with 300 items on A4-size pages, it is hugely popular with retail outlets and consumers.

1995

Meise Co., Ltd., active for twenty years as a Namura Taiseido subsidiary, is disbanded.
The former Meise is absorbed into the company’s Special Sales Department in the Sales Division, where wholesale sales to design schools continue.

NS launched.
1997

Namura celebrates 50 years since its founding.
As part of the 50th anniversary celebrations, a sale item brochure is distributed to celebrate the 50th anniversary.

2000

SHOT launched.

OL Brush launched.
NDB Mini Sable launched.
Fiftieth Anniversary HNP launched.
DN Namuron launched.
NN Namuron launched.
PC Sable launched.
FAN Namuron launched.
2002

View Liner launched.

2003

Starts acting as sales and distribution agent for Art Color products.

2004

Opened Nagoya Office in Kita-ku, Nagoya.

Risu (Squirrel) launched.
2005

Hosted the 1st JAWA-SHOW.
Opened Fukuoka Office in Sawara-ku, Fukuoka.

2008

Toshimasa Miyake is appointed President and Representative Director.
Yukio Namura is appointed Chairman and Representative Director.
Opened Osaka Office in Toyonaka City, Osaka.

2011

Reached an agreement with Bumpodo Co., Ltd. on sharing business activities as a way to enhance business efficiency.

2012

FN Namuron launched.

EU Kolinsky launched.
Chohin Meisei launched.
2013

V-Stock launched.

Meteo launched.

PC Sable (new type) launched.
